Budtender Stories: Is CBD Safe for Pets?
Seattle is a very pet friendly city! We really love our 4-legged friends here. In fact, Seattle is so pet friendly that many businesses even allow dogs inside their premises as long as they’re on a leash. So pet owners want to know, is CBD safe for pets?
At home I have a cat, a big overgrown kitten actually. I have a tendency to spoil her, and I personally think all pets should be a bit pampered. Maybe not as pampered as my cat (spoiled rotten) but definitely well taken care. I take cannabis products regularly including CBD, and at work I get asked questions about giving CBD to pets on a regular basis.
Let’s talk about what options may work. All products I discuss are available at Canna West Culture Shop.
CBD may benefit cats and dogs by relieving joint pain, muscle aches or any form of chronic pain. At the Culture Shop, we carry a variety of CBD pet treats, but I personally recommend the full spectrum pet treats by Healthy Roots, Honest Paws, or Austin & Kat which contain > .03 percent THC. Each of these companies make their products with organic ingredients that are safe and healthy for your pets, with many other wellness benefits to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the recommended dosage?
A: Austin & Kat recommends for dogs 2mg CBD per 10lbs and for cats 3mg per 10lbs to start. It’s important to consult with your veterinarian to learn if more or less is recommended based on your pets own needs.
Q: What kind of effects should I expect?
A: Based on the feedback I’ve received from customers, friends and family, CBD has helped their dogs with nervousness, anxiety and pain. I’ve been told they usually see a difference their dogs behavior within an hour of consumption.
For my cat, the results have been remarkable! She doesn’t like the edible CBD treats, so I use a tincture. Usually, my average size cat mellows out within minutes of taking it. I give her 3mg of a full spectrum CBD tincture, which has trace amounts of THC. I put a couple of drops on my index finger and apply it to the edge of her mouth. She acts calmer, less agitated and also seems to enjoy her food more.
At the Canna West Culture Shop we carry several premium CBD products for pets including soft chews, biscuits, tinctures and topicals.
