2018 was a banner year for Canna West Seattle. Not only did our business grow to the point where we had to move into a larger space across the street, but we also launched Canna Culture in our old space, a store designed to celebrate cannabis culture through art, music, health and wellness products, clothing, jewelry and more. In fact it has been added as a new locale for West Seattle’s Art Walk series, so we invite you to pop into the Culture Shop the next time you visit Canna West. I think you will be surprised, and delighted.
The New Year is upon us. Of course I’m dying to lay out all of the cool events, promos, products and education opportunities we intend to embark upon in the next year, but that just seems so self-serving. I’d rather spend your valuable time thanking you, our customers. There’s a lot of you out there, but not so many that we don’t recognize you by face when you stop into the store. Calling each of you out here to say thanks would be impossible. Rather, I’d like to thank you in groups. The customer groups below represent just a small portion of the wonderful people who have emerged as Canna West supporters over the last year.
1. Thank You Senior Citizens! It is truly amazing how many senior citizens, such as those from the West Seattle Senior Center, visit our pot shop. In fact, I just published a story about the growth of senior citizens in the cannabis market for Entrepreneur Magazine, simply because I love serving this customer set. A recent study published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine sheds some light on the reasons behind the growth. According to the authors, “after six months of treatment, 93.7% of the respondents reported improvement in their condition and the reported pain level was reduced from a median of 8 on a scale of 0–10 to a median of 4.”
And here’s the key piece of data we should all be thinking about, including those in the federal government: “After six months, 18.1% stopped using opioid analgesics or reduced their dose.”
2. Thank You California Avenue Businesses! We love our neighbors! Though we haven’t met all of you yet, we do share a large number of customers. If they ask us for a good pizza spot, we send them to Zeeks Pizza! If they need a haircut we send them to Julie at the Classic Barber & Style Shop, which is located at 5040 California Ave. Coffee? We send them next door to C&P Coffee, representing the best of the West Seattle community and a truly great place to hang out. Flowers? Plants? We send them to the West Seattle Nursery! And if they are just looking for a good West Seattle restaurant with a cool atmosphere? We always suggest New Luck Toy and The Bridge!
Canna West Seattle wishes these businesses and their owners continued success on California Ave in 2019, and looks forward to establishing new relationships with those we haven’t met yet!
3. Thank You Millennials! This generation is so misunderstood. They are so much smarter than we know, and their abilities typically span across so many disciplines. Plus, they take their recreation seriously! There is no sub-set or group of Canna West customers that knows as much about the products we list for sale than millennials. They are educated when it comes to cannabis on a totally different level than my generation was. Its legality gives them the opportunity to do way more exploration in terms of finding out how different cannabis products can best benefit them. Whereas our generation X customers might only buy flower or edibles, millenials are open to trying tinctures, oils and wax, plus the myriad applications for CBD.
Though we don’t strive for a quick, streamlined customer experience, millennials seem to prefer it that way. We just hope they capture some of our Zen while they are in store.
4. Thank You Book Club Babes! The data is not yet in on our eager group of cannabis shopping book club babes, but I can tell you that this data set is increasing vigorously as these women are gobbling up the edibles. The data sets are coming, but for now all I can share is what I see in the store every day. From mints to candies to chocolates, the edibles seem to set the perfect tone for a gathering where intellectual thoughts are expressed in a calm, but happy environment. Did I mention I’d love an invite to a West Seattle-based book club located near my pot shop?
5. Thank You Home Bakers/Cooks! Buy it or bake it – those are your options for edible weed today. If you buy it you are purchasing something that is regulated for dosage and for taste. Significant resources have been spent by the producers of these retail edibles to make sure they taste good. Maybe you want something where you can control the dosage and how the product was handled from seed-to-table? At Canna West Seattle we can help you with that. We work with a number of different producers and growers to be able to offer organic, shake cannabis in larger quantities and for cheaper prices, which makes our local community of home bakers quite happy.

6. Thank You Athletes! It may come as a surprise to some, but cannabis use amongst athletes is rampant. From runners to cross-fitters to SUPers to skiers and even golfers (are they really athletes?), cannabis offers something for everyone if used properly. For example, a hit or two of some Green Crack flower could forever change your daily trail runs, in a variety of ways. If you are going to experiment in this category please stop by your neighborhood pot shop first so we can steer you in the right directions. Making a mistake here could make you unhappy – for example, never snowboard after ingesting edibles dominated by sleepy cannabis strains. You’ll never make it to the lift.
We have already published some data as it relates to golf and weed, the results of which were hardly scientific, but also very popular with our golfing customers.
7. Thank You Service Professionals! I couldn’t come up with a better name for this category, so I went with service professionals, which would consist of lawyers, accountants, recruiters, pr people, marketers, salespeople and more. Their needs vary wildly too. Some just want their regular flower on a regular drum beat, but then some want to take a trip every Friday night after what must have been a tough week in the office.
8. Thank You Service Industry Workers! Those that serve us (waitresses, et al) have the most difficult of jobs, day in and day out. Not only do they have to deal with rude people while maintaining their composure, but they are also have to remember any changes to the menu and are on their feet all day long. Waitressing and similar jobs take a toll on the human body. We share our service industry workers pain, and as a result have devised a ton of pain relief and recreational options specifically to help them.
To those we did not include in this round-up, please know we intend to thank each and every one of you in store during your next visit.
Happy New Year!
