Top Weed & Movie Pairings for a Pandemic Shut-in
The Coronavirus has effectively shut down our city, minus essential services and a few essential businesses, such as restaurants that offer delivery and take-out, liquor stores and cannabis dispensaries. To that end, Canna West Seattle is currently operating with its normal hours from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. daily. We are also offering in-store pickup for our regular customers and curbside service for our medical marijuana patients and their caregivers. And our award winning budtenders are now leading experts in selling products while also practicing social distancing.
They are also leading experts at pairing the products we sell with applicable activities.
The vast majority of us in King County are sheltering in place with our loved ones, and so if we leave the house it is typically during the daytime and our activities are limited to something solitary, and hopefully in nature. At night, however, we are shut in: we can’t take our family out to dinner; hang with friends at a bar; visit art galleries; watch a band play or even visit a movie theater. What’s the one thing on that list though that we can safely do in the comfort of our own home? Fire up Netflix, Apple+ or Amazon Prime and watch a movie!
Our budtenders have done you a solid for the coming week – here is their collective recommendations for the pairing of four suggested flicks to watch during the Coronavirus shelter in place, and the absolute appropriate cannabis pairing:
Jo Jo Rabbit: the description of this film might turn some away, but dive into this hilarious rip on Nazi Germany without judgement and you might walk away delighted. Your best friend during this romp would be our old-school, light-hearted, sativa friend – Jack Herer. And no one does Jack better than Raven Grass. Pair with or just check out Spot Sativa Fruit Chews or Chocolates for a non-smoking option.
Joker: Joaquin Phoenix won an Oscar for this role, which is quite honestly a painful one to watch. This is not the Batman series you are used to, but rather an insane character study of someone crushed by society and basically forgotten. This guy.
Joker is intended to make its viewers uncomfortable. You might even experience some social anxiety. That’s why this film calls for a heavy indica strain, one that is known to calm stress, such as the delicious Forbidden Fruit, produced by Canna Organix or the Dolato by Weed Snobs. Pair with or check out, any of Green Revolution’s Wild Side drink flavors for a non-smoking option.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: Quentin Tarentino’s fabulous, 70’s Hollywood epic is just as gluttonous as one might expect. It is a ride that you must endure though (even the fake Bruce Lee/Brad Pitt fight scene), because the ending is just so Pulp Fiction. During a pivotal scene, lead character Pitt smokes a joint laced with LSD. We don’t recommend doing anything that crazy anytime soon, but we do encourage you to light up some weed with Pitt during that scene, because the shit’s about to hit the fan. According to our budtenders, Refine’s new Loud Infused Pre Rolls are mind bending and borderline psychedelic – the result of a 70/30 ratio of ground flower and crumbled resin. A good, non-smoking alternative? How about a pack of Doozies infused gummies from Green Revolution?
Uncut Gems: a must watch with the right weed, simply because Adam Sandler is not Adam Sandler. He is a real actor and in no way funny. His performance is so good it becomes hard to recognize Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore. His acting skills make the movie, but getting over his “new” skillset is a stretch and one that requires the viewer to go on some existential journey before accepting Howard Ratner. Raven Grass can help you with that endeavor before you push ‘play’, with a strain of flower called The Look. It is a strain inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre, if that provides any clues.
Here’s an interesting video review of the Look from Seattle Bliss:
Happy watching! Stay safe Seattle!
